Legislators and Funders Reception

February 10, 2009 - WWC hosted the biennial reception at the Senator Inn in Augusta in February. About 150 legislators, funders, and partners mingled with WWC Advisory Council, staff and program graduates from across Maine. The program included a welcome by Sarah Halpin, Chair of the Advisory Council, remarks by Merle Nelson, former Maine legislator who was instrumental in the “birth” of Women, Work and Community thirty years ago, as well as remarks by Maine Senate President Libby Mitchell and Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives Hannah Pingree. Executive Director Gilda Nardone reflected on the 30 year history and evolution of WWC. Eloise Vitelli, Director of Policy and Programs awarded Betsy Sweet the third Merle Nelson Women Making a Difference Award for her work on behalf of the organization. The program closed with graduate and WWC Ambassador Marcy Decker of Hullabaloo Studios sharing her thoughts about how WWC had helped her start a business.
